How did one survive growing up in the 80's and 90's? We had no seatbelts, no airbags and sitting in the back of a truck was a treat Our baby prams had the most gorgeous lead based colours No such thing as tamper proof bottle tops
Opening kitchen cupboards was a breeze as safety locks were unheard off Cycling was like a breath of fresh air No safety helmets, knee pads or elbow pads, with plenty of cardboards between spokes to make it sound like a motorbike
When thirsty we only drank tap water, bottled water was still a mystery We kept busy collecting bits & pieces so we could build all sort of things and we were fearless on our bikes even when the brakes failed going downhill We were showing off how tough we are, by how high we could climb trees & then jumping down. It was great fun.
We could stay out to play for hours, as long as we got back before dark, in time for dinner We walked to school, or sometimes we even rode our bike. We had no mobile phones, but we always managed to find each other. How? No one knows. We lost teeth, broke arms & legs, we got cuts and bruises and bloody noses. nobody complained as we had so much fun, it wasn't anybody's fault, only ours We ate everything in sight, cakes, bread, chocolate, ice-cream, sweet sugary drinks, yet, we stayed skinny by fooling around.
And if one of us was lucky to find a 1 litre coca cola bottle we all had a swag from it & guess what? Nobody picked up any germs.... We did not have Play Stations, MP3, I-Pods, Video games, 99 Cable TV channels, DVD's, Home Cinema, Mobile phones, Home Computers, Laptops, Chat-rooms, Internet, etc ... BUT, we had REAL FRIENDS!!!! We called on friends to come out to play, never rang the doorbell, just went around the back. We loved being let loose in the big bad world without bodyguards We played with sticks and stones, played cowboys and Indians, doctors and nurses, hide and seek, soccer games, over and over again
We had freedom, success, disappointments and responsibilities. ... Most of all, we learned to respect others
Are YOU from that generation?? If that's the case, email this to all your friends from the same era. Maybe this message will help them forget the stress that surrounds us these days. and just for a few moments puts a smile to their faces as they remember what life was really like in the good old days. Don't you think they were GREAT DAYS.....I sure think so. I Just can't stop smiling , I am sure U will have the same ............ ......
Me and my cousin were looking for a way to effectively kill time, and look what we found!! An entire antique piece created by Chinta Deekshitulu; we found a book of short stories and found this one:(Amma nannu enduku kottali? Read it, enjoyed it and thought we could share it here:-) Enjoy the true essence of good old telugu creativity!
We have emerged to be the nation with the most eco-friendly citizens of all. But that is where one should stop and think, we are not like the U.S of A, with temperatures forcing us to heat our homes, nor are we a nation with a tech saavy populace, which necessitates the authorities to curb the growing e-waste problems. We are, of ages untold, a nation with conservatism taught from the childhood, and nature is our second abode by default. That is, we are eco-friendly inherently. There is no denying that there are notable environmentalists in our nation, but what I feel is, other than our sub-conscious urge to stay eco-friendly, not many people make any notable contribution to the environment. That's what we are to inculcate with this recent accolade.
"Till now man has been up against Nature; from now on he will be up against his own nature." said Dennis Gabor, Inventing the Future, (incidentally, it is his 110th Birthday today), in Inventing the Future . This is actually proving to be true! The today's man has evolved so much by nature that its become his instinct to act against the nature... Why, when one sees a strip of sparse land, we start thinking like, "I wonder what building they'd build here. Hope its a nice mall... " True?
“For 200 years we've been conquering Nature. Now we're beating it to death.” Tom McMillan, quoted in Francesca Lyman, The Greenhouse Trap, It is high time we woke up... If not a fully fledged makeover in our ways of life, a conscious step towards betterment is something that'd signify a change of our perspective.
My dear niece, for instance this time has urged her family and friends into not burning crackers and sparkles this Diwali.... Applaud able for someone so young to act so responsibly...
As never seen before, 25 tigers strayed into Sunderbans villages and left around a dozen people injured... They are known to not cross their natural habitat and defend their territory feircely...Rise in water level in the rivers and increasing salinity there in are forcing them to do so...Kaola bears usually known to be shy,(In Australia) have come out into the wide open and started Begging cyclists for water...Excessive digging of roads ( once for communication lines, then for electric cables, again for expansion, then for broadband...again and yet again) and unnecessary bore-wells ( even in areas where there's respectable water table there.. 'contingency, son' they answer in all austere...) are not things that the nature will forgive. The massive and almost perfectly circular sinkhole that swallowed an entire intersection in Guatemala City over the weekend is no random mishap, but a clear indicator of structured destruction of the nature... M.Night Shyamalan's movie, "The happening" too tries to drive the same idea..
Thank God men cannot fly, and lay waste the sky as well as the earth. As for me, I'd like to create myself a new motto.... to:
Take nothing from the nature, but pictures.
Leave behind nothing more but footprints.
Kill nothing but time....
Hey there fellas, Ever noticed how life takes a downward plunge when you have so much to do and a lot is expected out of you? Yeah, I'm talking of exams and targets.... All the GOOD THINGS come leaping and hopping, precisely when you have stuff to attend to... People bug you to attend parties, your dear cousins get married right then (having waited for a looong time- I mean come on, u cud have waited a bit longer right? ) movie sequels that you've been dying to watch get released just days within reach of the horrid exams! You get to set your own targets and make your life a mesmerisingly mediocre one... gah!
The opportunity cost is yet another thing not to be forgotten of course.... You get to do and enjoy all these worldly pleasures lateronly if you are willing to forgo them now... Otherwise, it'd finally become a race to the the official B.Tech standby ( one-day batting on the day before, or fire-fighting as my dear jiju says)... I'm well off this way...Atleast thats what I keep telling myself ;-)
The brighter side is that you get to get much more time to yourself and can discover thoda sa hatke pleasures... My recent obsession is that I've successfully turned a Twidiot... Twitter's really gud! Dunno what kept me away from it all this time.., And of course bloggin too... Kind of helps when you want to vent out and start off fresh again. I'm realising the Benefits of blogging, much to my surprise.:-)
Well, my lunch is here, so I guess it is time to have a bite, take things light and win the fight.... ( With if not utmost, atleast with superficial delight!) Catch ya later folks....
Hey there people, This being my first ever blog, I've decided to gather my thoughts and go with the flow, rather than direct them. Lets see how it works out :-)
The recent catastrophes in Mangalore,Karnataka (Boeing flight crash ) and Jangraham,West bengal (Jnaneshwari Express derailment), which have torn apart families and shook our populace to the core, seem to have somehow triggered a series of narrowly missed misfortunes of similar kind. I once read an article on how people think, called the Recency effect. Doesn't it make one wonder how two domestic passenger airlines almost collidedin Mumbai, following the Mangalore airliner mishap ? Or how the ghastly plot laid by Maoists derailed a train(28th may) in west bengal is ironically followed only by Guwahati-bound Rajdhani Express's derailment(25th may) at Amba halt between Kharik and Naugachia stations in Bihar? How awry, yet interspersed? Its like something from theEdward Lorenz's chaos theory, which tells that there're no random incidents, but every outcome is a properly pre-planned course, unfolding over the time. It is our duty to find the missing link and bridge the void.
What follows chaos is hyper alertness, both in the administration as well as the people. The administration gets into remedial measures for the recent outcome and the media starts looking for likeliness in other such incidents. It is finding the root of an event, that is important while dealing with an incident at hand. Find the source and you can be the one to predict nature's next course.... Makes you wonder doesn't it?
